Breaking news from the Benders list.
Paul Slocum the creator of several flash carts for Atari brings us a program to utilize your C64s SID chip as a versatile synth. More info on
this page and
this page. For more info in Paul Slocum visit his awesome
gotile site. The kicker is that his software is available for FREE on this site, playable in just about any emulator. And if you really want to get that authentic SID sound get the
HardSID card and point your emulator to use it. But if you are really really cheap like me, then simply go and buy a
C64 on eBay.

Well, even if you use one of these other solutions, you're probably going to need to harvest SID chips from an eBayed C64, anyway. And, of course, what's cooler than keeping it in the C64 case, really? Er, especially when it's cheaper. ;-)

Note that Reflex is going to be the easiest way to get the card in North America. And it is pretty darn cool to have additional polyphony / control / not have to explain to the boyfriend-girlfriend-husband-wife-roommate why there's three ugly beige computers in the living room.
Unless you're Atariboy, anyway -- check his photo gallery for plenty of vintage machines:
