Daily Double

The LiveJournal group has been cranking out some good stuff lately, and here are the latest highlights. DC_Animal brings us a recased in an old Video tape wooden storage case. The distortion pedal has more settings then you can shake a fist at. The nice thing is that the construction tips are posted and quite a few images are available as well here: http://www.geocities.com/dc_animal/oxidizer.htm The second instrument is by the book SK-1 Aleatron R.Q. Ghazala mod with a quite attractive breakout box created from an old video cassette tape case ( coincidence?) from our friend bent_hack who also brought us the bent Master System experiment.

oh man I was totally going to do that with my sk1. I have been looking for a cool enclosure. I have that book by Reed. I is pretty cool. It has really got me excited about electronics. I was even going to use a parallel port like that guy, so then you can make other cool bends in different enclosures, and just trade them out (my sk1 is really precious, I am afraid to mess it up). This way you don't have to be settled on one bend, and you don't have to drill holes in your sk (but that is still really cool for some people). I want to follow Reed's plans, but I would also like to do a variation with an external patch bay. The possibilities are endless!

For sure, SK-1s are very precious considering they for got alot of money unbent on eBay nowadays. One thing I would have to warn you about with the breakout boxes is that sometimes those connectors don't work as well as they should, they do introduce some resistance and change your bends as opposed to just point to point wire. So be careful and probe for bends with the connector and wires presoldered, not just wires. Hope that makes sense.

Duely noted good sir. I have really just started circuit bending or circuit anything for that matter. The sk1 won't be my first target, but I am working with an SA-38. I have gotten some promising sounds, but I only have a loose plan of action. Still waiting to get paid and expand my tool set. I will definately send you some pics and sounds when all is done. By the way, any tips for this casio tonebank?

N/P, I try to help where I can with bending. First thing I would recommend when getting tools, is get them from Harbor Freight or Jameco, not Radio Shack, you will get crappy stuff and pay alot for it. Second about the SA Toneback stuff, I believe they have CPU crystals so try doing the crystal mod as described in Reed's book. That will glitch it up for sure, and swap the crystals as well to something within a close range. That will change the pitch creating more synth pad like sounds. Also take some good pictures during your experimentation, I always regret not documenting stuff as well as I should've.
