Micro Mixers to fit in your pocket

When playing out with circuit bent or DIY gear it is a no-brainer that a mixer is needed to merge the audio signals from various sources. It would also be handy to preview the sound before you mix it in. However the thing that gets me is that virtually none of the multi-channel mixers have the CUE to headphone option like DJ mixers do. WTF? I guess it can be done if mixer can send channels to the AUX bus or maybe to Main 2, but that may not be useful if its post fader. At any rate these Micro mixers are of great value, below $40, and are very tiny. Micro mixers at Active Musician

    its really easy...

Yes, I am sure that those mixers are just a handful of op-amps. Jacks, pots, and the box will probably be the most expensive part.

Eeew! I would not use LM386s in a mixer. Those are baby power amps and not too clean. OK, clean isn't everything, but...

Use op amps. Suggestions from a mailing list discussion:

For bi-polar power supplies: TL072 is good and cheap enough, the LF442 is great for powering with two 9V batteries, the LM358 is cheap and okay, the OP275 and NE5532 are better and cost more. The NJM4580 is decent for a very cheap op amp.

For single supply operation we have the LM324N (3/$1 cheap), the LT1014 (like $3), and OP213 ($5).

You can always pay more for hi-end op amps, that's just a few that people seem to like. There are so many to choose from!
