Video Bender From Netherlands

Karl Klomp is a bender from Netherlands who has been working on modding video mixers. I always thought that its a great idea especially cause those things can be so cheap to get. This guy seems to be applying the method of creative short circuit to the mixers with hopes of getting it to glitch up the video. This seems to be a very careful painstaking process because video signals have to obey certain vsync and hsync rules and with those messed up you just get a bunch of scrolling images. I can't really see alot of potential there because some video mixers are still mostly analog, but some do have digital effects and the signal does get converted to the digital stream at some point if they have onboard effects. Karl has some videos on the site, however I could not get them to play. But then again with all the computer problems I've been having it is probably just me.

older high-quality mixers (like grass valley) had modulation that you could apply to certain effects like a horizontal wipe, to make it all wavy (this type of thing was very common in the 70's, groovy man). i've always wondered if you could mod those a la synthesizers with different modulation sources etc. the main controls are usually pots too, and many have built in envelopes for auto transitions.

unfortunately, you can't get your hands on a piece of gear like that for too cheap these days. some day maybe....

I have an old electronics mag that has a how-to article for building a Video scene switcher, and another for Video Palatte. Very 80s effects, very Lo-Fi.
If you guys want me to scan them, let me know and I'll add them to my site.
