Alchemists of Sound BBC Special Video

Wow, holly crap. This video definitely tops Pathways To Music series anyday. A highly recommended watch, especially if you are into sound effects, tape splicing, and Music Concrete. This documentary interviews British composers who used to work at BBC's Radiophonics lab. The 1 hour long extravaganza is packed full of archival footage and electronically generated noises. The saddest part for me came when the studio became absolute thanks to the invention of the Synthesizer by the Americans. The often painstaking process of splicing the tape was abandoned and the studio more less closed without any sort of recognition. I suggest grabbing this one before it goes down. http://fatbaron.com/alchemistsofsound.wmv Original Post Via Theoretical Playground, Awesome forum! http://theoreticalplayground.co.uk/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=&page=viewtopic&t=430

I've been looking for a video like this for a long time! I hope it doesn't go down before I can get somewhere with a decent connection. Dial-up is kicking my ass. Thanks for always posting great videos on here.

    Keith.

BTW: Did anyone notice that the host site of this video is a porn site? Strange? I think so.

OMG, Dial-up. My friend, I suggest that you find the nearest public library and go there to download this video, or a coffee shop, or your friends house with cable connection. Sure, high-speed is over-priced, but wasting your life on dialup is something I will not wish on anyone.

Haha, I live in a very rural part of PA, and although i would gladly shell out the cash for dial up (considering i do webdesign and it is quite necessary) the service is not available in my area. I really want to see some tape splicing! I hope Delia Derbyshire is present. I'll find somewhere to get it!

How about posting this as a BitTorrent? Then maybe we could get the download times down a bit.

    Cheers,

No problem, It made my slow friday Nite quite enjoyable. Torrenting this one would speed up the times, however I don't want to get on BBCs bad side for seeding this. If someone in UK decides to do this, more power to them.

The guy and the clock are in every interview. Someone said to me that its pretty typical British Comedy/Humor. Thats all I know about the guy.
