The jig is up!

The fact that Everbright Toy co. of China includes a pitch wheel on their DSI like keyboard may seem trivial to most everyone, except me. What's happening here is a clear reflection of the market trend toward more flexible musical instruments with Circuit Bent and Synth-like qualities that can be produced cheaply and in large numbers. What's next, a 555 timer circuit that comes stock? Perhaps. Also note the somewhat unusual pleasant silver finish, once again no need to spray paint something that already looks cool. For more inside pictures of this toy feel free to visit the gallery page.

Or it could just be that pitch bending is a pretty simple and fun thing for kids to do (as well as easy to do in this very cheap HW)?

My daughters grab for the pitch bender of my Juno because it's right there, easy to manipulate, and gives them a quick and "funny" response during their noisemaking.

Don't get me wrong - I'm now hoping the DSI keyboards soon come with cutoff and resonance pots!

HA! I had brought up this very concept on the bender community BBS some time ago and was roundly mocked for the suggestion. If successful, we'll see more bent-ish ideas in budget boards I'm nearly certain.

I've bent one of these, it's a beast, my one said 'space adventure keyboard' on the box so I had to get it... I'll email some pics to Mr Lofi esq and see if he puts them up...

I'm sorry people mocked you for being ahead of the curve, I think people are still under the impression that circuit bending is something that noone in the music industry knows about.

Ah! Tongue in cheek doesn't always translate! I was only half serious there.
