Mikmo's Modular

The jump from circuit bending to synth building seemed to have worked very well for Mikmo. This Modular system utilizes various circuits described on MFOS website for the final build. No sound samples just yet, however more information on making panels and etching PCBs is available though the link.

I like his descriptions of the thoughts that went into the mechanical design of the synth, instead of just a bunch of schematics - you can find that stuff everywhere else. He also reveals what he did, how he did it, and where it went wrong - unlike a site like Bergfotron, which has pictures of some beautifully crafted stuff, but not much of how to make it.
I guess I like, that what Mikmo did, is very much on the level of what I would be able to do with a few handtools, and doesn't involve welding, lasercutting or routing.
I'm planning to make my own panels out of steelplate from a junked pc-tower, and cut it with a hacksaw or such. Use a handheld drill for the holes. A cheap and easy lo-tech approach, just like soldering to breadboard. DIY within reason, I think.

What ever you do DO NOT USE Steel fort frontpanels. It's very difficult to cut and drill, and very very heavy.

Use aluminium sheets from the junk yard. Much easier to handle.

I have a new (easy) method for making the rails in the cabinet mail me if you are interested in the details mikael@mikmo.dk

Mikmo, your pitch control system for the circuit bent instruments is pure genius!
