Circuit Bending eBay Tracker blog

I really do apologize for ignoring GetLoFi almost for a week, however I do have some very good news. First is the fact that GetLoFi main page has been visited by over 100,000 people, overall there has been over 300,000 readers and thanks to everyone. Second bit of news is the unveiling of a new service located at circuitbent.blogspot.com. I have spent many many hours writing the backend of this blog, which is intended for archiving circuit bent items that were put up on eBay. Each item page is ripped and broken down by images, sounds, videos, and the description in the post. All media files are mirrored to GetLofi so they will be permanently there. Items updated continuously and posted in intervals with an Atom feed thanks to blogger. Any questions and comments are welcome. If there are problems let me know, glitches are to be expected.

Hey, nice work!! This looks really interesting and Im sure to visit it often! Congrats on the cool visitor stats for getlofi aswell :)

I have one suggestion though, is it possible you can include the sale price and number of bids on each item, and who bought it?

Nice job!!!! this is really interesting!!!

Maybe next could be that mad people in europe can buy it from the blog. Often the items are only shipped within US. This should be worldwide....as with other gadgets, material... Yesterday I was looking for Shapelock: they only ship in US.... shouldn't be that hard, right?

thanks, keep up that good work...

Now we have a database of crap. Super. Now it gives me something to do to find the REAL gems from ebay.

Forgot to add this, great idea though. This will be fun.

    Magpie,
It would be possible to include the sale all of those things, however since the script is not a realtime reflection of an ebay search, but rather a snap shot, all of that will quickly be outdated. I am planning on adding a after the auction aggregator to update all those fields, but that is not setup up yet. On the other hand I do want to give buyers and sellers some privacy as well, if you need to learn all of those stats there is an ebay link right on the auction.

I am thinking about spinning off a materials tracker service where you can do just that, specify country and the nature of the product to get relevant feeds. However by nature that would be different then this archival version. Something to keep in mind. Thanks for the props!

    Anonymous,
I do get a change to preview everything before it is posted, so I can, not post crap in order to keep a clean and useful collection. I'll do that from time to time, but choice is hard to make sometimes. Any ideas on what I should keep out?

Archiving the sale price is nearly as important as the device itself, imho. Well, anyway its something to reflect on. Thanks again for this super service!

Master - you could add a current high bid for active auctions, final bid price for ended auctions, etc. with the eBay API pretty easily.

Er, scratch that - you'd need to be on a proper host rather than blogspot for that (unless they have support for PHP or the like nowadays?).

Well I looked into the eBay API and even signed up for the developer program. However I quickly realized that it can cost minimum $300, possibly up to $5,000 to use their "awesome" API. Your service then has to be aproved for use and then you get charged per call, blah blah blah. Thanks but no thanks. I can get the high bidders and prices if needed, however in that case I would have to wait to post the auctions until they are over.
The aggregator is running on a getlofi server, but the reason for choosing blogspot is for improved google visibility. I may have to switch to WordPress however, but that is up in the air for now.

Ah, didn't realise that - thought it was free for a low number of calls. Sounds like a right rip off.

It is free if you want to play around on the sandbox server and not the production one. :-)
