GameBoy Pitch Modification and Pro Sound Kit

GM_Kit

The DMG GameBoy Pitch modification have been available for some time now and many discoveries were made. For instance, it has been verified, Thanks to Anthony from Nonfinite, that cutting of the crystal trace is NOT necessary. The output from the LTC can be connected directly to the xtal element and the main CPU will respond without problems. Adding a 10K trim Resistor is also required to keep the unit from crashing.  On the NEW LTC Gameboy Kit board the Resistor is mounted directly.

The 250K potentiometer seems to be an even better choice for the usable tempo range. The Kit also includes a segment of thin and flexible high quality wire-wrap wire to make the installation easier and it can be used for doing a variation of the Pro-Sound mod with the original Headphone jack. The entire process only takes about 15 minutes and the a new GameBoy Pitch Modification Kit includes everything needed! Available only from the GetLoFi Shop.

Please note that in the video I do install the crash proof resistor, but that is only necessary when using the regular LTC Modules.

please excuse my ignarance, can this mod be done on a gameboy colour or is it just original gameboys?

  3. Frederik says:

Maybe you could make the picture of the diagram bigger, is that possible?

  4. Woops, sorry about that. The diagram is a link now.

The mod can be done on the GameBoy Color. Yes. There are some differences how ever.

  5. Could this kit be adapted to use on the GBC? How would I go about finding about these differences sir?

You see I have a GBC but not an original GB…. after seeing yr video I am very impressed…

  6. CM says:

GBC does bend. However GBA or GBA SP does NOT yet.

I don’t have a diagram for it yet, but its the same idea.

  7. Im going swapmetting.opshopping soon for a bending sniff around, Im gonna keep my eyes open for an original GB, awesome work on the kit man!

    Thanks for the replies!

  8. If you need an original GameBoy, try on eBay. I’ve actually had good luck getting them from there.

Sometimes even cheaper then what people are asking for them in the store.

Don’t pay more than $20 shipped, but anything under is a good deal especially if they have games included.

  9. Ramiro says:

This is awsome! The pro sound is genius, i dont need to drill holes in my gameboy, to bad i got the old pitch set last month whithout the new stuff..

  10. Frederik says:

Is the pro-sound only in mono or I am the biggest douche in the world?

  11. Jeff Robert Smith says:

Can you do this without the prosound mod?

  12. CM says:

Yes, just connect the LTC Power, Ground, and Output. Leave everything else intact, as-is.

  13. Mac says:

wait, you hooked up your prosound mod with the ground solder point instead of the left solder point. so its mono. thats no fun. :(

  14. CM says:

Thanks for pointing that out. The Diagram has actually been updated to reflect the correct Pro-Sound wire placement. The video is slightly wrong however.

  15. eym says:

could you wire an on-off switch?

  16. CM says:

Sure, all you have to do is disconnect the output from the LTC from going into the Crystal Leg and you are back to Stock Speed.

  17. eym says:

    thanks!

is this still for sale i cant find it at the store?

  20. Thank you for letting me know, we just updated the store with an option to select the Gameboy Kit when ordering the LTC Kit. Same low price only $15.

has anyone worked out the diagram for this to be implemented into a gbc yet?

  23. kaspar mcleod says:

game boy color. i hooked the ground and positive to the back of the battery contacts, and the time chip thing is that black thing under the game that says kds 0038 8.388. facing it the way you would read it, its the leg on the right. i am gonna post some pics on my facebook…
search for “kaspar mcleod” on face book in couple of days…. gonna send pics here too.

  24. A word of advice, you probably want to locate a “switching” positive spot. That way the LTC board will turn off when the gameboy is off. Otherwise it will drain your batteries.

  25. kaspar mcleod says:

good call on the positive spot. that makes sense. for now i will just take the batteries out… ha.

  26. ERic says:

does anyone have an update on the diagram for a gameboy color? thanks.

  27. George says:

is doing this on a gameboy pocket going to just be same as doing it on the original gameboy? sorry im new :P

  28. Gameboy Pocket will work, but not preferable. The sound quality is not as good and there is no room to fit all the components inside.

    Just get a Grey DMG-01.

Also we have already modded Game Boys in the GetLoFi.com/shop

  29. cats says:

do i need a 250k pot or will a different one work?

  30. The Kit from the GetLoFi.com/shop comes with a 250K potentiometer and everything else you need to perform this mod.

The bigger the resistance value of the potentiometer the slower the LTC speed can go. Anything over 500K seems to be too slow and rumbly for the gameboy. Usable music tempo range would be somewhere between 50K – 250K.

  31. WgM says:

I’m a bit new at this and haven’t purchased any of your awesome kits yet,
But was wondering WHAT was plugged into the game cartidge slot that looked like a web cam,? And where can I get it, IF I need it at all.
Thanx for all the RAD stuff you guys do

  32. WiGrMx says:

Ok so I figured out that that’s a camera
For the game boy… Just never played the camera game…
NOW what I need to know is if I can do w/out it and still have
    The kit work.
    Thanx

  33. The kit works for any Game or Sound producing cart that you insert into the gameboy. It speeds up and slows down the entire pitch of the unit.

  34. freakyjurre says:

very good product, solders very nice! shipping to the Netherlands was realy fast, i get the kit after 4 days!!

  35. Jake says:

Hi, I bought this kit and set it up exactly as instructed on my DMG. I’ve watched multiple videos and have seen multiple diagrams instructing me on how to do this and for some reason the highest speed of sound on mine seems to be the lowest in all of the videos. The more I turn it the slower it gets. The slower it gets it just hardly makes noises. Could you make a new video for me with the exact model you are selling (2012). so I can clearly see what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

  36. You probably forgot the little jumper wire. Take a look at the http://www.getlofi.com/howto.pdf file one more time and you will see the black wire in the bottom of the LTC module connecting the multiplier pads. That should do it.

  37. Jake says:

Thank you so much. This just made my day sir. you are a gentleman and a scholar.
