Complex Stereo Sound Generator for Sound Effects and Music Synthesis

assembled.JPG

This hit my inbox today…apparently Saratronics company based in Switzerland is selling these new Complex Stereo Sound generator kits for around 35 Euros shipped. My guess is that they are very similar to Soundgin modules, except a heck of a lot better. Typically modules like this are controlled by serial commands through an interface with a help of a PIC or AVR microcontroller that triggers the digital input pins of the generator. When those are shorted in a particular order they turn off and on various chip functions. The main sound generating IC in this case is SAA1099P,which I have never heard of, but apparently it packs quite a wallop with its 6 Frequency Generators ( Oscillators ), 2 Noise Generators, 6 Mixers, 12 Amplitude Controllers ( One for each generator I’m assuming ) and 2 envelope controllers ( one per each channel maybe ). I am not sure if the SAA1099P is in production any more, but certain vintage sound blaster cards do contain it if you feel like scrounging. The synth kit looks very promising, hopefully the company will send me some MP3s to post as a demo as well. Niceeeee!

Forget the mp3 demo, they should be sending you a free sample for reviewing :P

  2. They did offer to do that.:) so may be soon I can do a part 2 follow up.

  3. Saratronics Team send (Apr.02,2007) to Circuitmaster a free sample in kit form to evaluate the product.

very cool. any chance of making a hardware interface for it?

  5. I probably could, that would involve programming a PIC or an Arduino board which I”ve been doing alot lately. Just have to wait and see once the board comes.

    Test heard, sir!

  7. Well there is a guy claiming that Saratronics is a fraud and that he can’t post to my comments for some reason…Beats me the comments work great.

I actually heard that. I put a post in getlofi general about it. He also posted his claims on the electro-music DIY forum. I was curious about it because you said that you received your kit. It doesn’t really make sense to me that they would promote their kit and send free kits out for promo purposes to people if they were fraud and did not have them. Hmm…..
